Residents are coming together to create a Neighbourhood Plan for Mellor, Marple Bridge, Mill Brow & Compstall.
This plan will cover everything from housing to businesses, employment, transport, leisure, health & wellbeing, community facilities and our countryside. It will set out a vision for the next 20 years to help ensure that our villages are fit for the future and develop in a sustainable way.
Once created and agreed, it will carry real legal weight, becoming part of council policy and used by them. It will be used by the council to guide planning in our area, planning applications and other decisions.
Neighbourhood Plans were introduced by the government in 2011 when certain decision making powers were given to local residents and councils, recognising they are best placed to make decisions about where they live.
There isn’t yet a plan for Mellor, Marple Bridge, Mill Brow & Compstall and we are coming together as a community to make one.
If you’d like to read an example of a Neighbourhood Plan you can find out about Marple’s plan here which is currently in the agreement stages.
