MMMC Neighbourhood Plan: The story so far

The principal of a Neighbourhood Plan was established by national legislation in order to increase public participation in their own local planning process.

A few ordinary residents got together at the Compstall Sailing Club and decided it would be a good idea to set up a plan for the four communities of Mellor, Marple Bridge, Mill Brow and Compstall.  We held a public meeting at the Ludworth Village Hall to get the ball rolling and to form a small committee of people who were interested in seeing a plan created. We were thrilled at the numbers who turned up.

Marple residents are working on their own Neighbourhood Plan.

After many more monthly meetings – some at the Compstall Sailing Club, and others at Compstall’s Community Pub, the Northumberland Arms, we have secured the permission of Stockport Council to ask our communities what they would like to see in the Neighbourhood Plan.  There’s a  grant of public funds to help us along and the next thing to do is to organise a survey among all residents to set the priorities. This survey is launched in November 2022. You can find out more here.

Sometime in 2023, there will be a referendum to see how many people support the idea of a Neighbourhood Plan.  Open meetings aren’t possible at the moment but we hope you’ll keep an eye on the website for future developments.

Our meetings are currently held on Zoom and we hope we can have a public meeting very soon.
